I'd been contemplating all the rumblings out of Palin Bunker Central that the lady sees herself as the new 'leader' of the Republican Party and that her nomination for 2012 is all but assured. I see also that Joe the Plumber (he isn't the first plumber in the Repo ranks - that's what the White House secret ops who carried out the Watergate burglary were called) has an agent now and is looking for a record deal. Honestly Joe - you can do better. I hear that Karl Rove is about to offer you the Veep spot on that Palin ticket.
I had been mulling the idea that Palin was the conservatives first choice to destroy the McCain presidential bid, and boy was I right on the money. Because really, the last thing the neo cons wanted was a moderate Republican President. That, in their twisted little minds is way worse than a Democrat. They worried that Ancient Johnny might actually survive a full term. They called the shots, they inveigled McCain to add her to the ticket knowing full well that whatever bounce she gave the conservative movement, the effect on the other side would be to electrify Obama supporters. Home run.
Poor Johnny did not understand quite what monster he had helped create.
Rush Limpbog confirmed today that that is exactly what has happened, and that 2012 is where the conservatives were always looking once McCain sealed the nomination. Trying to mollify an outraged listener who wished he could just vote Palin for the big job this time around, Rush lowered his voice and comforted the man 'one step at a time' he said 'one step at a time. We'll drag Yosemite Sam across the finish line and that will be the end of it'.
I had to look up the cartoon character of Yosemite Sam on Wikipedia - but yeah, it makes perfect sense. He's a foil to Bugs Bunny, an older gun slinger with the nickname 'hare-trigger', a man who is violent and beligerent and always loses. But perhaps most telling is the description of the "ludicrous lengths he'll go to just to "get even" -- often with disastrous results to himself and his surroundings."
Poor McCain - he is despised by the Party he is the standard bearer for, he is being kicked in the groin by an expensively overdressed Alaskan moose hunter, and he is mocked openly and consistently by the right wing media. I kinda like the guy.
You're right, it does make since.
