Can you blame Jihad Jane for acting out a bit in this upside down world we call Amerika? This strange looking woman who was willing to kill a Swedish cartoonist as part of her own personal jihad was a nondescript caretaker in Pittsburgh whom her neighbors couldn't even remember seeing, let alone talking to. The news media were so desperate to find someone who had 'known' Colleen LaRose (really, what a cool name), they interviewed a woman who said her kids had been to Colleen's Halloween party two years before. That was the closest they got. Think we are suffering from a tad disconnectedness here?
But then, why not, when virulent anti gay California Republican senator Roy Ashburn who believes it's his duty to take strong positions against gay Americans to properly represent his conservative constituents, came out as gay. Oh yeah, those constituents who didn't know you were a freakin' liar when you ran for office on an anti gay 'family values' platform. Funny how ethics doesn't actually extend to giving the voters an upfront resume. Are we a little disconnected from truth and honesty here?
And then take the sad story of Eric Massa who decided to take the Democratic ship down with him when he had to resign in the face of an ethics investigation. Massa decided to describe Rahm Emmanuel as someone who would tie his own children to the front of a steaming locomotive. That's after Rahm had stormed into a shower stall in the House gym in the nude and poked Massa in the chest for being a turncoat Democrat. And take the even sadder spectacle of Nancy Pelosi calling him 'poor baby, poor baby' on the Charlie Rose show, as if she was talking about a kid with bruised knees after falling off the monkey bars in the gym.
Is it a surprise that Jihad Jane and most of the rest of the country are looking for some escapist ways to distract them from the scariest Congress in living memory...and we don't even have Tom deLay, Trent Lott or Dick Cheney in government....
